Food Is Medicine Update

Posted by We Feed You Author on

In September 2022, We Feed You announced its collaboration with The George Institute for Global Health to provide medically tailored meals (MTMs) aimed at managing type 2 diabetes and reducing heart disease risk. This partnership involved developing new recipes and adapting existing ones to meet specific nutritional criteria set by the research team.

Progress and Outcomes:

  • Meal Development and Delivery: We Feed You successfully crafted a range of MTMs, which were provided to study participants for their main lunch and dinner meals.
  • Health Impact: Comprehensive data analysis to be done after the study completion.

Implications for the 'Food Is Medicine' Movement:

This collaboration underscores the potential of integrating medically tailored meals into standard healthcare practices. By providing convenient, nutritious options, such programs can empower individuals to make healthier dietary choices, thereby enhancing overall health outcomes in Australia.

Next Steps:

Associate Project Manager Krupa Philip from The George Institute for Global Health said  "we are continuing the study in 2025 with our meal partners providing a valuable role."  We Feed You remains committed to supporting this initiative and looks forward to the publication of the study's full results. We Feed You continues to prioritise the development of health-focused meal options, reinforcing the concept that food can serve as a powerful tool in disease prevention and management across many age and socio economic demographics.
