How Our Family Uses We Feed You to Make Mealtimes Easier

Posted by Tracey Emney on

Life at our place — and I’m sure yours too — is pretty full.

Some days feel like a relay: work deadlines, kids’ sport, shopping, appointments, checking in on parents… all while trying to keep the house in some sort of shape.

This long weekend was no exception. Like many of you returning home after a few days away, I’ve come back from watching my youngest compete at the National Junior Basketball Championships. And, as expected, the bags are dumped in the hallway, the washing pile is out of control, the house is in chaos and the fridge is looking very uninspired. Even though I've only been a spectator, I feel like I've played six games of basketball too, and preparing dinner tonight is the last thing I feel like.

But thankfully, I did think ahead and the freezer is stocked with We Feed You meals.

People often assume I’ve got dinner sorted every night because I run a ready-made meal business. But honestly? On many nights, I still get to 6 or 7pm and wonder what on earth are we going to eat?

The difference is, is the confidence when I am well stocked with We Feed You in the freezer, I don’t have to think too hard. It’s not just about saving time (though that’s magic) — it’s about having real, nutritious food that fits around our busy, real life.

Here’s how it works in our house:

The Kids: Always Hungry, Always Moving

We’ve got a 14- and 16-year-old who both play a lot of sport. My youngest is a big eater and a bit of a foodie — her current favourites are the Penne Bolognese, Satay Pork and Butter Chicken Curry. She’ll happily polish one off before training or reheat it after, no complaints. Sometimes she even cleans up after herself (because let’s be honest — no one had to cook!).

Older Kids at School: Real Food, Real Fuel

Our eldest, now in senior school, sometimes takes a We Feed You meal to school if she’s got a huge day. She just pops it in the microwave and gets a proper meal — way better than a half-eaten sandwich or running on empty.

On nights when sport runs late and she’s not home till 10pm, I feel better knowing she’s having something nutritious — not toast or cereal. She can choose what she feels like and heat it herself, which gives her independence and keeps things simple for me.

Share Packs

For those nights when I've got a bit more time and the whole family’s hungry, our Share Packs are absolute gold. The Bolognese Sauce is a go-to at our place — just add pasta and some parmesan cheese and you’ve got a winner. The Mexican Pulled Pork makes easy tacos, burrito bowls or nachos for a casual night in. The Braised Moroccan Chicken is perfect with couscous and greens, and the Slow Cooked Beef works a treat with mash or rice. Each pack feeds 2–3 people and is made just like all our meals — by real chefs, with real ingredients, and zero shortcuts.

Friday Night Curry Nights: Takeaway, But Better

Yes, we still get takeaway now and then… but I’m usually disappointed. These days, I prefer a We Feed You curry night or Choose Your Own Adventure. I’ll heat a couple of meals, add some naan or a homemade raita, and plate it up like a proper Friday night feast.

It tastes better, is far healthier, and definitely cheaper than our local curry place.

Me Time (AKA Lunch in the Sunshine)

Lunchtime is sometimes the only peaceful moment in my day. I often reach for one of our vegetarian or vegan meals, sit outside, and soak up some vitamin D while I eat.

It’s 20 minutes to myself where I feel like I’m actually looking after me — and it gets me through the afternoon without reaching for snacks.

Lunch Without the Food Court Trap

My husband often grabs a We Feed You meal from the freezer to take to work. It saves him from overpriced sandwiches and sad salads — and the dreaded 3pm regret. It’s just simple, satisfying food he can rely on.

When Everyone’s on a Different Schedule

Some nights, everyone in the family is on a completely different timetable. I’ll sometimes prep a shared meal for reheating later, but more often, We Feed You is our go-to.

It means everyone can eat when they’re ready, eat what they feel like, and still get a proper, balanced meal. And I don’t have to juggle four preferences or appetites in one pot.

Supporting My Parents

When I visit Mum and Dad, I’ll often pop a few meals in their freezer. Mum would never ask — but I know there are nights when mum can't be bothered cooking either. It’s one small way I can support them and give them something wholesome without fuss.

In the End… It Just Works

We’re all different, and this is just a snapshot of what’s working for us right now. But when you’re juggling 100 things and dinner feels like another job on the list, having meals in the freezer that actually taste good, meet everyone’s needs, and just work… that’s worth sharing.

If you’ve got your own We Feed You rituals, I’d love to hear them. Because real food for real life is kind of what we’re all about.
