Australian Made Ready Meals | Quality Local Ingredients
  • Australian-Made Ready Meals with Integrity

At We Feed You, we believe great ready meals start with great ingredients. Since launching in 2016, we’ve followed one simple rule: source the best produce available, with a strong preference for Australian ingredients wherever possible.

As an Australian-owned and operated ready meal company, we are proud to prepare every dish in our own Melbourne kitchen using carefully selected local produce.

Made in Melbourne – Not Outsourced

Unlike many ready meal brands that outsource production to large manufacturers, we manage everything in-house.

That means:

  • We control quality at every stage of production
  • We order and inspect the fresh vegetables ourselves
  • We check the quality of the meat and poultry
  • We taste and adjust seasoning daily
  • We control consistency from prep to packaging

Keeping production in-house ensures our Australian ready meals maintain the quality and authenticity we stand for.

Fresh Australian Produce, Sourced Weekly

Our chefs work closely with trusted Australian suppliers to bring fresh vegetables, herbs and fresh produce into our kitchen each week.

From crisp spinach and sweet carrots to fragrant fennel and bright herbs, we prioritise ingredients grown by Australian farmers who care deeply about their land.

Sourcing locally means:

  • Less time in transport

  • Better flavour and nutrient quality

  • Supporting Australian farming communities

100% Australian Grass-Fed Beef & Free-Range Chicken

We are committed to sourcing 100% Australian grass-fed beef and free-range chicken.

For us, this isn’t a marketing statement — it’s non-negotiable.

Grass-fed beef delivers rich flavour and nutritional benefits, while free-range chicken ensures quality and welfare standards we’re proud to stand behind.

These Australian proteins are at the heart of many of our ready meals.

When We Source Ingredients From Overseas

While we prioritise Australian ingredients, some pantry staples simply cannot be grown or produced locally at the scale or quality required for authentic cooking.

To deliver culturally authentic dishes, we responsibly import select ingredients from trusted suppliers.

Soybeans & Tamari

Traditional tamari soy sauce relies on specific soybean varieties and fermentation techniques perfected in Japan and parts of Asia. Australian-grown soybeans are typically used for stockfeed or oil production, and do not always suit traditional fermentation.

Using authentic tamari allows us to maintain the integrity of dishes such as our Tofu Laksa or Japanese Chicken Curry.

Spices

Spices like cumin, cinnamon, turmeric, paprika, cardamom and sumac thrive in tropical and subtropical regions — not in Australia’s climate.

While small-scale growers exist locally, they cannot meet the scale or year-round consistency required for ready meal production.

Importing from reputable suppliers ensures:

  • Authentic flavour

  • Reliable supply

  • Safe food handling standards

Specialty Grains & Noodles

Certain ingredients are region-specific:

  • Basmati rice grows in the foothills of the Himalayas

  • Rice vermicelli noodles rely on long-grain rice varieties grown in Southeast Asia

Just as Champagne can only come from Champagne, France, authentic Basmati rice cannot be replicated in Australia’s rice-growing regions.

Sourcing these ingredients internationally allows us to stay true to cultural traditions.

Tinned Champignons

Australia grows excellent fresh mushrooms, but large-scale mushroom canning infrastructure is limited.

To ensure year-round supply and consistency for our meals, we source canned champignons from established European producers.

Our Sourcing Philosophy: Australian First

When we import ingredients, we work only with reputable suppliers who meet strict standards for:

  • Quality

  • Food safety

  • Authenticity

By choosing Australian ingredients first and importing only when necessary, we create ready meals that are:

✔ Made in Australia
✔ Fresh and nutrient-rich
✔ True to cultural origins
✔ Supportive of local farmers
✔ Transparent about sourcing

  • Spices –  Spices such as cumin, cinnamon, turmeric, cardamom, cloves, paprika, and sumac simply don’t grow well in Australia’s climate. They thrive in tropical, subtropical, or specific regional conditions (e.g. cardamom in India, cinnamon in Sri Lanka, paprika in Spain, sumac in the Middle East).  While there are small spice growers in Australia, they can’t meet the scale or variety needed for consistent meal production. So, importing from trusted suppliers ensures reliable quality, safe handling, and year-round availability.

Middle Eastern Beef, LOW FODMAP, GLUTEN FREE, onion & garlic free. 350g By We Feed You

We Feed You Middle Eastern Beef includes beautiful sumac, a tangy, ruby-coloured spice made from dried berries, traditionally used across Middle Eastern cooking.

  • Rice noodles require long-grain rice (often jasmine or other specific varieties) that thrive in tropical climates like Thailand, Vietnam, or Cambodia and not in Australia’s more temperate rice-growing regions.

  • Basmati is a heritage long-grain rice that is grow in the foothills of the Himalayas in India and Pakistan.  Its unique fragrance, flavour and fluffy, separate grains come from the soil, water, and climate of that region. It's much like how Champagne can only come from Champagne, France. So, Australian-grown rice (mainly medium-grain in NSW Riverina) can’t replicate that aroma or texture of Basmati which is why we source it from overseas.

  • Tinned champignons - Australia grows fantastic fresh mushrooms, but supply is limited, and production is geared mainly towards the fresh retail market. To ensure a consistent, year-round supply of mushrooms suitable for canning isn’t always available in Australia.  Australia also has very little large-scale canning infrastructure for mushrooms. Parts of Europe for example have established processing industries that can grow, harvest, and can mushrooms at scale, making supply reliable and affordable. Importing ensures we can obtain a stable, cost-effective supply of these specific mushrooms used in our ready meals.
