Nourishing Those Who Care for Others
Every October, Carers Week (12–18 October) shines a spotlight on the millions of Australians who provide unpaid care for family members and loved ones. Whether it’s cooking, cleaning, driving or managing medications, carers do an extraordinary job - often while juggling their own health, careers, and family life.
At We Feed You, we see first-hand how nutritious, convenient meals can ease the daily load for carers and the people they support. After all, food is more than just fuel - it’s comfort, connection, and often the glue that keeps a household running.
The Challenge for Carers
Carers often put others first, which can mean:
-
Skipping meals or grabbing quick, less nutritious options.
-
Feeling stressed about cooking separate meals for different dietary needs (think gluten free, low FODMAP, vegetarian).
-
Running short on time, with little energy left for grocery shopping, meal prep, or cooking from scratch.
The result? Fatigue, burnout, and sometimes poorer health outcomes for both the carer and the person being cared for.
How Ready-Made Meals Can Help
That’s where chef-made, healthy frozen meals come in:
-
Nutrition you can trust: All our meals are gluten free and endorsed by Coeliac Australia, and many are Monash University Low FODMAP certified.
-
Choice for special diets: Options for vegan, vegetarian, lactose free, good source of protein and more, so you don’t need to cook different meals for different needs.
-
Convenience: Meals are pre-portioned, balanced, and ready in minutes. No chopping, no waste, no stress.
-
Peace of mind: You know the person you care for is eating well, even if you can’t be there.

A Simple Way to Say Thank You: Gift Vouchers
Carers often put themselves last, which is why a little gesture of thanks can go a long way. Our We Feed You gift vouchers are a popular way for families, friends, and communities to show appreciation during Carers Week and beyond.
Gift vouchers give carers the freedom to choose meals that keep them nourished too, helping to reduce stress and ensuring they don’t miss out on the benefits of a healthy, satisfying meal.
It’s not just food, it’s a reminder that their efforts are valued. Check out our popular gift vouchers here >
The Shift to Support at Home in November
From November, the Australian Government’s Support at Home program will begin to replace existing Home Care Packages (HCP) and Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).
For carers, this means:
-
It is designed to be a simpler, more flexible system of support for older Australians at home.
-
Meal services like We Feed You will continue to play a crucial role - ensuring people can access healthy, tailored meals without the stress of shopping or cooking.
-
Carers may find it easier to access support, knowing food (and nutrition) is taken care of.
If you or the person you care for are considering Home Care Package funded meals, now is the perfect time to get informed about what the November changes will mean. https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/support-at-home/about
Carers Deserve Care Too
Caring is rewarding, but it’s also demanding. That’s why taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of someone else. Having a freezer stocked with nutritious meals can free up time, reduce stress, and ensure both you and your loved one eat well.
So this Carers Week, we say: thank you. You’re the quiet heroes keeping households running. And if dinner feels like one thing too many, whether it’s for yourself or a carer you know, we’ve got you covered.
